My husband purchased respirators for both of us when we got ready to paint the interior of our house. First of all, a respirator is WAY more comfortable to wear than those paper masks. Second, the disposable filters keep all the nasty VOC's out of your lungs. I wouldn't paint without them.

I work on boats for a living and deal with 2-part polyurethane paints and fiberglass all day long. You can't go wrong with 3M.
